More About REWIND 103.9 FM

The request by Sudbury to switch the frequency of CHNO to 570 kHz was deferred by CRTC in May 1976. Daytime wattage was incremented to 50,000 w in 1982 after CRTC endorsed the proposal in 1980. After Ricard’s acquiring of major interest in Mid-Canada Communications the Sudbury Broadcasting eventually merged into Mid-Canada Radio in 1985 which sold the stations to Pelmorex in 1990. Rewind which was formerly hosting Top 40 format was recognized as Rock leader in Sudbury just couldn’t continue its dominance after the signing on of CJRQ in 1990 and had to switch to rewind to oldies format branded as Oldies 55 in 1992. The struggled didn’t seem to end there as it tried a variety of formats including classic rock, talk and country before finally arriving at oldies in 1997. Pelmorex sold out its all three Sudbury stations in 1999; CJMX was acquired by Telemedia while CHYC and CHNO were handed over to Haliburton Broadcasting Group. In Aug 1999 CRTC also approved the CHNO’s switch to FM band @ 103.9 MHz with an ERP of 100,000 w. REWIND (Z-103 at that time) officially moved to 103.9 MHz with a wattage of 3,000 w in Feb 2000. In Nov 2001 the sale of radio to NewCap was approved by CRTC. The station was rebranded as Big Daddy 103 dot 9 in Jan 2006. The increase of transmitter power to 100,000 w was in effect on Aug 17, 2009. On May 21, 2010 the adult hits format dropped was replaced with classic hits and CHNO was rechristened as REWIND 103.9.
