CRTC called the shots for the launch of the radio to be operated on 95.7 MHz using an ERP of 50,000 watts rejecting request by five other applicants. Apart from music the programing proposed by the authorities was enough to persuade the CRTC with a public affairs show on weekdays, a weekly on hour dedicated to social issues concerning natives, and a student run show. On Oct 7, 1989 the station was launched from the studios at 400 Bayfield Street. The transmitter site was relocated in Nov 1989. This followed an approval in decrease of ERP to 45,500 w in April 1992. Douglas Bingley the prime share-holder in the company was granted the transfer of control through a newly incorporated Ontario Inc. Amendments were made in the license when approval was given to increase the power to 96,300 w strengthening the signal in Barrie.
Sister station CKMB singed on air on Jan 22, 2001. In March 2002 the ERP was again lowered to 46,000 watts with the relocation of transmitter to share space with recently build CKMB. Effective radiated power was once again allowed to decrease from 46,000 to 41,000 by CRTC with the change in antenna height and transmitter relocation. 431 Huronia Road, Unit 10, Barrie became the new studios for Rock 95 in 2007. CRTC renewed the license for a four-year-term form Nov 2010 to August 2014. In May 2012 the company gained another sibling CIND-FM.
