VOCM 620 AM (CKCM)

620 CKCM Newfoundland and LabradorVOCM 620 AM or 620 CKCM launched on July 25, 1962 and owned by Newcap is a Grand Falls-Windsor station broadcasting News, Talk and Classic Hits. At launch the channel licensed to Colonial Broadcasting System Ltd., operating with an ERP of 10,000 watts was a repeater of St. John’s based VOCM 590. A new semi-satellite was approved by CRTC in November 1968, the AM broadcaster would simulcast the content of CKCM. The transmitter at Baie Verte was launched on July 27, the rebroadcaster would operate on 1240 with a wattage of 1,000 for and 500 for night time. Colonial Broadcasting System Ltd was renamed as Radio Newfoundland Ltd. on 1982. By year 1995 the local content offered by the CKCM would share 60 hours while the rest would be borrowed from the main facility of St. John’s. NewCap Broadcasting Ltd. in 2000 purchased VOCM and all its assets including CKCM. In September 2010 and FM transmitter (CKCM-1) covering Springdale was approved by CRTC that would be active at 89.3 MHz. The license for the CKCM and CKIM Baie Verte were validated on May 28, 2010 up to August 31, 2016.
