CBC Radio One Yellowknife is the public radio station of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for the Northwest Territories. CFYK-DT is the call-sign of the flagship station singed on air in 1967. The CBC Yellowknife history goes back to the launch (1967) of CFYK-TV, the first one for the NT and a project under CBC’s Frontier Coverage Package Program. After getting improved graphics and colored format in 1973 the station was allowed to increase its ERP from 59.5 to 24,000 watts at channel 8 accompanied by a change in the antenna location. After receiving the approval the Rae transmitter was installed to simulcast the content of CFYK-TV. On May 12, 2009 CFYLK and its rebroadcast channels were granted a renewal by CRTC. In Feb 2013 the license once again was successful to find CRTC’s administrative renewal until august of the same year.
