88.3 CJIQ FM

CJIQ FM Paris, Ontraio88.3 CJIQ FM is a Kitchener based station in Ontario owned by Conestoga College. The campus radio station was launched on January 8, 2001 and branded as 88.3 CJIQ. Licensee, the college, was successful to grab the license on July 16, 1999 which was denied to a couple other applicants for some reasons. After an initial signal test the FM officially singed on air on January 8, 2001. The ERP of the newly launched channel was set to 4000 watts while the frequency was and has remained throughout 88.3 MHz. Upon the first launch Hot AC was the format decided by the operators and was introduced as
“The Condor” – kind of a brand name also used by Conestoga College’s Sports teams. The antenna was installed on the Global Television tower at Paris while the offices and studios facility remained at Conestoga College. In August 2008 the renewal added to the life of the CJIQ 88.3 FM seven more years validating it up to August 31, 2005 as per records of CRTC. CJIQ is doing a great job for the minorities and the different ethnic groups by a proposed increase in the programming dedicated to three different languages owned by the ethnically and culturally diversified yet united Canadians. The community service by informing, educating and entertaining different sections is the mission of the FM. On the request of the authorities in control of 88.3 FM effective radiated power was changed from 4000 to 3386 in 2014.

The CJIQ besides at 88.3 FM is also streamed on Roger Digital Cable 947 (particularly for Southern Ontario Audiences). The campus radio can be duly described as living lab for the university students particularly for those enrolled in broadcasting and studying Journalism. “The Condor” was dropped in 2006 as it was purposed to let CJIQ emerged as a stand-alone entity and be recognized simply as “The Tri-Cities New Rock, 88.3 CJIQ” after the format was changed from Contemporary Hits to Alternative Rock. Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, Guelph and Brant County are the primary receivers of all the good stuff sponsored. The passionate teams of students and volunteers are the faces rather voices actually guiding the students in their career choices and subject choices. The instructional campus brand besides student stuff is also known for hosting music stuff featuring Rock, R&B, Punk Rock, Hip Hop, Indie, Reggae and others in weekdays, evenings and on weekends. The Tri-City radio produces music programs in Polish, Spanish and Serbian. Popular and special form the CJIQ 88.3 includes Reggae on Vibes Radio, New Age, Classical, The Punk Rock Academy, Light Jazz, Armed and Amped, Anger Management and Feel the Rage attracting 18-34 y/o listener.
