CBEF 1550 AM is an Ici Radio-Canada Première station established in 1970 and owned by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. CBC received approval from BBG to set up a French language station on a frequency of 540 AM. CBEF was launched on May 18, 1970 on a frequency of 540 kHz with an ERP of 2,500 and 5,000 w for day and nighttime. An application for FM repeater at Sarnia was made in 1976 but was withdrawn by CBC as the signal strength of the main station: CBEF 1550 AM was quite improved by then. A satellite at Leamington was launched in May 1982. By 2001 the French language station at Windsor was producing about 36.5 hours of local content.

Changes in Technical parameters were made in 2012 when frequency was changed to 1550 kHz and ERP was increased to 10,000 w. The long used 540 kHz dial was shut down by La Première Chaîne on March 1, 2013. Licenses of CBEF and booster transmitters at Leamington and Windsor wee renewed by CRTC on May 28, 2013 until Aug 31, 2018. Sarina broadcast relay transmitter was approved by commission during a hearing on Feb 3, 2017; the class A transmitter would use a frequency and power of 101.5 MHz and 1,886 w respectively.
